Rustic Romance

One of our favorite things about decorating weddings is the new found freedom regarding the color of flowers and fabrics.  The traditional ideas of weddings using only white or ivory are finally (thankfully) giving way to the endless possibilities of the color wheel.  Any color combination is fair game... no longer will we be bound by white tulle and ivory bunting!!  Can you tell we're get excited about this?!?!? (Insert Braveheart "Freedom" yell here.)
So when we were entrusted by the spirited C with the job of planning and decorating her destination wedding, we were happy to bring some "outside the wedding box" color combinations to her.  One of the best things about this Bride is that she really knows her mind.  After viewing our destination location (beautiful Fredericksburg, TX), we knew we needed to utilize some luxurious fabrics to make this wedding fabulous.  We suggested a rich brown paired with a deep cranberry.  What could be better for a wedding held in Texas Wine Country than the color of merlot?!  C jumped at our suggestion and we were off and running!!  Check out the ranch the Bride and Groom selected for the wedding and reception.  These pics are from our scouting trip...

IT'S ALL ABOUT COMPROMISE...
Although the ceremony was to be held in the Chapel, most of the reception would be outdoors.  Since C had her heart set on a daytime wedding, we knew we would be dealing with full sunlight and the heat.  A great idea presented by the Bride herself was to start the ceremony at 10:00 in the morning.   This did two things; it preserved the daytime atmosphere the Bride was looking for and it kept the guest's faces from melting off (think early September in Texas!)  Although the Wedding Party was in for an early morning, it was the perfect compromise to achieve the Bride's vision for her wedding day.  Since guests arrived while it was still morning, they were greeted with coffee and breakfast goodies.  We had a few bistro tables available for guests who wanted to enjoy a mimosa before being seated in the Chapel.

SMALL AND INTIMATE
The beautiful thing about a destination wedding is that it is usually involves a smaller number of guests.  While a large wedding is a lot of fun, there is something inherently special about a limited number of guests.  It's more intimate and usually allows for more of a detailed event.  This ceremony was such a great example of the benefits of a small wedding.  The Bride and Groom were surrounded by friends and family in the small candle lit Chapel.  There was no need for a sound system or microphones... The ceremony music was provided by a single violin... Select friends and family rose from their seats to read Scripture to the Bride and Groom... Small. Intimate. Perfect.

THE COURTYARD
After the ceremony the guests were led into the beautiful courtyard.  The Brides fabric and floral choices in this area perfectly mixed the look of the rustic ranch with the softness of of a wedding.  Check out the decor below.

Here is the view as guests entered the courtyard

We settled on 3 large tables in this area.  Guest were open to choose their own seats.  One side of each table used a charming vintage pew as the guest seating.  So charming!

The main table decor relied on one of our favorite and cost effective elements: the apple

Yes, you've seen it before in our work, but fruit continues to be a fresh way to decorate a reception.  We LOVE the space is takes, the fresh smell of the produce, and the beautiful way the color compliments our floral.  Of course, if you are going to use produce in your event decor, you need to make sure it is shiny and beautiful.  Here is a shot of our expert apple shiners the day before the big event...

The Main linen was a dark brown which went with the rustic look of the facility.  The merlot napkins and chair ties really popped off the dark brown of the tablecloth.  Chairs were tied to the left as our Bride is left handed... it's the little things.. :)

Since the main course was served family style, each table was adorned with small cake plates to hold the serving platters.  The cake plates themselves were decorated with pomegranates grown in the Texas Wine Country.

One of the other big decorative (and delicious) elements in the Courtyard was the cake.  The Bride and Groom agreed on one cake as the dessert.  It was decorated with ivory fondant detailing and adorned by a bed of cranberry colored roses.  A single porcelain dove sat on the table~ this family heirloom was very special to the Bride and Groom as it was the cake topper used at the Groom's grandparent's wedding.

THE RESTAURANT
While most of the guests were in the courtyard, the rest were in the Restaurant portion of the reception area.  They were treated to the sights and smells of the open Italian kitchen.  Delicious breads and oils were served with the tomato mozzarella salad as guests waited for the main course of Chicken Marsala.  Delicious!!

  1. Truly a beautiful rustic wedding ceremony! These wedding decoration ideas are absolutely adorable and equally fashionable. We have started wedding planning and visited a few Seattle Wedding venues. All of are so pretty and will book one of those quite soon.
